College volleyball athlete - sprained both of my ankles my freshman year and wore these for the next three years. I still have them 2 years after my senior season and still wear my second pair.
I despise the Active Ankle, terribly uncomfortable (wore in high school).
This McDavid product lasts a very long time!!

When the sleeve starts to meet the end of it's life (at the end of more than the 1st year's beating), the sleeve's Velcro straps for compression would start to wear out and not stick as much (so I would put a round of athletic tape on it). Also the seams/stitching down the center of the compression sleeve would slowly separate(which i would sew if need be).
(But this is after beating them up, everyday, for more than a year). If you really needed to replace them - you would only need to replace the sleeve (if thats possible).
Theyre the best and you don't have all of the those laces and straps and craziness that take 10 minutes to put together. Very comfortable and you dont feel restrained, but supported.
